Our Homeschool Curriculum

The Elementary and Middle School curriculum is based upon both the Montessori method and Classical Education model. The Montessori method provides children with the foundation needed to locate information found in books, encyclopedias and other quality literary and informational sources. Montessori materials and curriculum also instill in students academic confidence earned through hands-on math and science exploration. Both Montessori and Classical Education provide students with opportunities to gain necessary skills that will allow them to effectively express information and original ideas in both oral and written form. Toco Hills Home Tutoring does not use Common Core-based textbooks or workbooks.

An Education for Life
There are subjects, beyond academics, that are more important than the current focus of high stakes testing in our public schools. Because Toco Hills Home Tutoring believes that an "education for life" will have far reaching and greater implications for success in adulthood, we have made it an essential aspect of the program. Some examples of an "education for life" would be:
  • how to independently choose, plan, organize and complete long term projects
  • how to be a responsible member of a community who accepts consequences for purposeful and accidental actions
  • learning how to succeed, acknowledging when one fails and, most importantly, learning from the experience of both
  • understanding the fine dance between freedom and responsibility
  • learning how to actively focus and engage in purposeful work
  • experiencing how to use effective and socially acceptable means to solve one's own problems
Standardized Testing
Georgia law requires all home school students take the IOWA test of basic skills in the 3rd, 6th, 9th and 12th grades. Toco Hills Home Tutoring can assist your homeschool family in facilitating the taking of the IOWA. Any additional costs will be paid by the parents.

Still have questions??
If you are not sure if Toco Hills Home Tutoring is right for your child, please email or call. Based upon her experience working with students from a variety of  educational backgrounds, Mrs. Stilman has learned that some children may need more structure and direction from the teacher, while other children need more freedom and opportunities for self-direction. Please be assured that Toco Hills Home Tutoring is not a "one size fits all" program.
